Living through a Memory

    He thought he heard someone in the house. The sound replaying through his head, as he cautiously approached the source. Countless questions running through his head, but he first tries to get one answer, as he calls out his maid's name. When he question was returned with silence, he noticed a familiar scent. It was a mixture of cinnamon and dead flowers.
He immediately froze, thinking back to the last time he smelt the scent. It was exactly one year ago. The memory beginning to blur, but he could still remember the sound of sirens and the glow of the fire in front of him. Then he remembered a face, the face of his previous maid. As he continued his walk to the source of the sounds, more questions ran through his head.
She couldn't have come back. It wasn't possible....right?
the tantalizing scent of his previous maid growing. It was when he was about to turn the corner towards the source when he felt it. The warmth of a fire hitting his skin. His eyes widen as he turns to run for a phone. He's inches from the phone when he noticed the cord was cut off and thrown on the floor. Panic settling over him as he frantically searched for his cell phone. The smell of the smoke grew, forcing him to think back to that horrifying day. He remembered feeling powerless as he watched his home burn. He shoved that painful memory to the back of his mind. He then covered his mouth with his arm, and proceeded back to the room where the fire felt the strongest.
He got there, stopping in the doorway motionless. Standing across the room behind the growing flames was his previous maid.
Their eyes locking as a smirk grew across her face.
